One of the World's Two Hundred People Use Drugs

Information data from the UNODC said, the prevalence of drug users around the world with an age range 15-64 years to reach 243 million people. Meanwhile, the number of adult drug users about 27 souls, or 0.6 percent of the adult population worldwide aged. That is, there are about one in two hundred people around the world use drugs.

Yury Fedotov delivered demikain, Executive Director of UNODC, at the International Day against Drugs in Vienna on Thursday (26/6). On the occasion, Yury noted the importance to focus on health and human rights approach to drug users, especially injecting drug users and those who have been affected by HIV/AIDS.

According to Yury, drug users are still having trouble getting access to health services. According to him, only one of the six drug users who can get health care.

In response to the increasingly complex problems of drugs, Yury asserted that the ideal drug treatment is an attempt to balance supply and demand. In the context of a reduction in demand, he requested that such efforts should be based on concrete evidence that the response is focused on integrated prevention and rehabilitation.
